Inspiring speakers on sustainability and circularity
Are you looking for an inspiring speaker on the topics of sustainability and circularity? Then Rotterzwam could be just what you're looking for.
That one day you read something and decide to change your life. That's what the founders of rotterzwam, Siemen Cox and Mark Slegers, did, inspired by the book "The Blue Economy" by Gunter Pauli. One business case from the book—"Growing Oyster Mushrooms on Coffee Grounds"—stuck with them, because, they believe, "you can talk about sustainability, but it's mainly about putting it into practice."
In 2013, they started growing mushrooms on coffee grounds in the cellars of the old Tropicana swimming pool. In 2015, they founded BlueCity, and since May 2019, we've had a mushroom farm in the shadow of the Euromast.
Besides growing mushrooms and saving coffee grounds from incineration, they're also working on real system change. With the " Back to the Soil " project, they're trying to change the waste status of coffee grounds so it becomes a legal fertilizer.
By showcasing the value of waste, redesigning supply chains, and, above all, challenging traditional values. Besides rotterzwam, the gentlemen are behind the transformation of the former Tropicana swimming pool into BlueCity. A playground for circular businesses, where waste doesn't exist.
With eight awards, these men are the most decorated urban landscapers in Europe. With a touch of humor, they get the audience thinking.
