Our mission

Rotterzwam believes in a society that closes cycles, makes maximum use of raw materials and consumes more vegetable than animal proteins.

We contribute to this by working together locally, regionally and internationally to stimulate and facilitate the production of mushrooms from local waste streams.

The result is a wide range of products and services related to mushroom production, awareness and delicious snacks based on vegetable proteins.

History

Rotterzwam started in 2013 in the former Tropicana Swimming Pool (now BlueCity ) on the Maas River in Rotterdam. Since then, the farm has scaled up and we operate in several cities. Over the years, we've learned and experienced a great deal, and despite the occasional setback, we remain committed to our mission of closing the loop and growing more mushrooms.

Transparency

Sustainable entrepreneurship isn't always easy, and exciting stories are often told, plans made, and concepts shared. But what are we actually DOING? More and more companies claim to be using coffee grounds for high-quality purposes and even grow mushrooms on them, but is that true? Can it be verified? We choose to share as much data as possible about what we REALLY DO. This allows you to make informed choices about who you want to work with or where you want to purchase your products or services.

Impact

What do we do and what impact does it have on our environment, our employees, and society? Our bylaws stipulate that we consider every decision we make to ensure we also consider this impact and leave our planet in a better state. This is assessed annually through our B-Corp certification . Take a look at our impact reports.
