Circulaire paddestoelen Substraat Faciliteit

Step 3 Research Circular Mushroom Substrate Facility

Stap 3 Onderzoek Circulaire paddestoelen Substraat Faciliteit

We have put our incubation space into use.

We converted a 40ft reefer container into an incubation space. We divided this container into three areas.

  • Entrance: small space to change clothes
  • Sterilization room: here we will sterilize substrate in the autoclave
  • Incubation room: Here is the flow hood cabinet, in which we will inoculate the cooled sterile substrate.

A ventilation system has been installed in the space to create a clean, positive pressure environment. The floors are sealed against moisture, and the compartments will be sealed with strip curtains.

The autoclave can process 120 liters of substrate at a time. We opted to purchase a second-hand autoclave for our research. This way, we gave a device from the Groningen Medical Center a new purpose.

After sterilization, the substrate is placed in the cooling and incubation room.

Once it has cooled sufficiently, it can be inoculated with various types of mycelium. We do this in a sterile environment with a laminar flow hood. Once again, we were able to purchase a well-certified second-hand machine through Labmakelaar .
