At the end of 2020, we implemented a change to our bylaws that prepares rotterzwam for B Corp certification. B Corp stands for Benefit Corporation. B Corps are certified by the non-profit organization B Lab. Companies with this certification voluntarily strive for the highest standards of social and environmental performance, responsibility, and transparency.
Today, Rotterzwam is a company that has prioritized sustainability and equal opportunities for all from the very beginning. Rotterzwam believes in a society that closes cycles, maximizes the use of raw materials, and consumes more plant-based than animal proteins.
Few food producers are more transparent than rotterzwam. We 've been reporting based on the SDGs since 2017 , and we even make their environmental impact transparent to our clients.
-> There will be no substantive changes to our business operations, but our motivations will likely be even more visible to our customers and suppliers.
-> Our employees are our most important ambassadors for the future, and we've taken a major step in further defining their tasks and responsibilities. We've created clear job descriptions and an employee handbook. In a start-up environment, you're collectively responsible for everything. During the scale-up phase, it's important to establish a framework to prevent our employees from being overburdened.
-> In addition, B Corps are looking to each other for potential collaboration. This could be a new opportunity for rotterzwam to find partners with a similar mission and drive.
In concrete terms, this means that the following text has been added to our statutes:
We aim to have a significant positive impact on society and the environment in general through our business operations and activities.
In our decision-making in all our consultations, we will also jointly take into account:
1. The social, economic, legal or other consequences of rotterzwam's business operations for our colleagues, [any] subsidiaries and suppliers;
2. The interests of the customers of rotterzwam and its [possible] subsidiaries;
3. The communities and society in which rotterzwam and its [any] subsidiaries and suppliers conduct their business;
4. The local and global environment;
5. The short and long term interests of rotterzwam.
We will continue to collaborate at local, regional, and international levels to stimulate and facilitate mushroom production using local waste streams.
Want to start an oyster mushroom farm in your region? We can help you with cultivation expertise (and techniques) and offer you access to various business models. Our Mushroom Master Program covers all of these topics.
