Rotterzwam is the winner of the third Rabo Urban Agriculture Award. The jury praised the entrepreneurship based on multiple cash flows and the circular economy concept, with short and closed supply chains.

The award was presented during the national Urban Agriculture Day on May 15th in Utrecht. In addition to the honor, the Rotterdam oyster mushroom farm received a check for €2,500 from Rabobank Utrecht. Projects 'De Nieuwe Ronde' from Wageningen and 'De Stadsakker' from Groningen received significant recognition for their contributions to urban agriculture in the Netherlands.

State Secretary Dijksma indicated during the day that urban agriculture should also be viewed within an international perspective. "The Netherlands is a leader in many areas when it comes to technology, but we're not always ahead when it comes to converting knowledge into a business model. Urban agriculture offers opportunities for this," she said. She emphasized that the time is ripe to strengthen the connection between urban agriculture and conventional agriculture. In the presence of the State Secretary, Alderwoman Isabelle Diks of Leeuwarden, the 24th municipality to sign the 'Urban Agriculture Agenda'. The agenda's goal is to promote and encourage urban agriculture. Nearly 350 people attended the Urban Agriculture Day. The 2015 conference will take place in the Brabant region.
