As part of the week without meat, rotterzwam helped build the largest vegan hamburger. Naturally, made with oyster mushrooms. A week and a half ago, we were invited by
Zapp Your Planet approached us to ask if we wanted to collaborate on creating a vegan burger. It had to be a real monster.
Did you know that if you cut fresh mushrooms into pieces, place them in a container, and cover them with plastic wrap, they will grow back together? This can be done in any shape you like, like a heart.
But this burger didn't need to be any unusually shaped. It simply had to be large. We then called BlueCity Lab to ask if they could help us with a mold.
That was no problem. Within a day, this magnificent thing was at our office. We then chopped up 15 kg of fresh mushrooms and filled the mold. That already looked pretty cool. But we still had to be patient.
The whole thing sat at room temperature in the BlueCity lab for five days, by which time the sliced mushrooms had grown together. Because this is a vegan burger made entirely with oyster mushrooms, we also call it the "mushroom burger."
The result is impressive: a vegan hamburger with a diameter of 875 mm.
The entire process can be seen on Sunday, March 28th in the broadcast of Zapp your planet.
